New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
HIi guys,
A friend of mine is recovering a Fw190 wreck in Latvia...so far a lot of items have been recovered, but the wreck is in a bog 6 feet deep. The 190 crashed in August 1944, flying alone and burning. Sadly, the parachute was found in the wreck. He was flying to the direction of Cesis (Wenden), which was near a JG54 airfield. I do have a map of where the crash is located, but do not want to post it as the wreck is still being recovered. Eyewitness say that this was the only airplane seen that day. They saw the smoke trailing the aircraft…and she flew alone (no Russian or other German aircraft were in the area). Suspected it was downed by anti-aircraft fire. She flew in a North-West direction, straight toward Cesis (Wenden), then turned 180 degrees and crashed. We are suspecting the 180 degree turn was due to another FlaK hit. The wreck was found just east of Ergli, Latvia. We "think" it was the aircraft of Horst Adameit from 1/JG54, as it matches the direction, battle, time and distance. However, it was equipped with the FuG16, MG151's and Mg131's…which is normal for an A-7/A-8…while Horst's was an A-5 (W. Nr. 155960). Do not recall if the A-5 was equipped with this... Info on the prop Hub indicates: Sach.Nr. 9-12067 Verwendbar fGr. 9-12067 12153A Which I also think is for the later series... The crash happened between August 7th and 18th ... Does anyone have any info or thoughts on this? Thanks! |

Also have him for an A-6 in that time period, 550528, schwarze << +, Rodeike, Focke Wulf Jagdflugzeug, p.230 photos.
However, an A-6 would not have carried the MG 131s either. |

Re: New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
Does II/JG54 fit into this area ? if so on 18-8-44 there is the loss of Fw190A8 172637 White 15 Ofhr. Helmut Dorner (umlaut over o) killed following combat with Yak 9's no location given. The loss list I have also shows Ademeit in A5 5960 and as follows '' LK 8-10 Il-2 15.20 aus Uberhohung Il-2 angegriffen dann Angriff abgebrochen, verfolgte trotz eigenen starken Bodenbeschuss''. A location has been written in which looks like Kr??zburg possibly Kreuzburg

Re: New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
Hello,
I have an XLS file with some JG54 losses during the whole war. From my info, Ademeit crashed on the 7th of August 1944 with his A-5 10km far from Kreuzberg. Helmut Dorner crashed in Estonia on the 15th of August near Dorpat. I don't have any info about a pilot called Paul-Heinz Friebel (Werk Nummer 560208). He crashed with his A-8 on the 4th of august but I don't know where. Maybe it's your guy |

Re: New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
Hello Mike,
do you have any informations about the pilots fate? If your friend found a parachute, I guess he also found some human remains in the wreck. Please inform me about this important case. Thank you very much. Sebastian |

Were the necessary authorities contacted for processing of remains?

Re: New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
Dear Mike,
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me about the human remains. If they found the parachute inside the wreck, there must be something from the pilot, too. Please inform me about this. Also I would like to know, how you can be sure if it was Horst Ademeits plane? Best regards Sebastian |

Re: New Fw190 wreck found...info needed on loss
no, the pilots remains were taken away and buried somewhere else in 1945...and the wreck was moved and buried.
The wreck was an upgraded A5 that had A8 features. It crashed in the first week of August 1944 flying alone and trailing smoke. She was flying to the direction of Cesis (Wenden), which was near a JG54 airfield. Eyewitness say that this was the only airplane seen that day. They saw the smoke trailing the aircraft…and she flew alone (no Russian or other German aircraft were in the area). Suspect it was downed by anti-aircraft fire. She flew in a North-West direction, straight toward Cesis (Wenden), then turned 180 degrees and crashed. The wreck was found just east of Ergli, Latvia (Russia). The only recorded loss we know in this area is that of Horst Adameit from 1/JG54, as it matches the direction, battle, time and distance. Horst's was an A-5 (W. Nr. 155960) that was upgraded to A8, and that is that is exactly what was found. Also props were of the later type… We know 100% it was JG54 as that was the only base in the area (also the direction of flight)... No other losses are recorded on this date... So we are 99.9% confident it was Ademeit's... |
