Smile 5./KG76 Emblem?

Hi guys

Would anyone happen to have a picture/photo of 5./KG76's emblem circa BoB/November 1940. The emblem is not listed in Luftwaffe Emblems 1939-1945, Barry Ketley & Mark Rolfe, Hikoki Publications.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Hi Clint

I have always wondered if this was 5./KG76's emblem. To date I have not seen an aircraft with it but K & R say Do 17Z so it would fit the period. Number 360 in Ketley and Rolfe.

Regards

Chris

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Hey Chris, how's things?

I didn't think about that one really. I wonder what the bomb being dropped on a mountain means if anything? It would certainly fit the period. The K&R Hikoki book has 5./KG76 & 6./KG76 missing so the emblem could possibly be for either of these two? Hopefully someone may have something to add?

Cheers

Clint

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Chris/Clinton, i believe the emblem you posted belongs to 3/KG76.
This emblem appears regularly in various publications showing F1+AL and from my source on hand, Dornier17 in Focus by Chris Goss pg78 Red Kite books.

Best regs,
Steve.

Question Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

In this case I wonder what the emblem Kenley/Rolfes listed for 3./KG 76 is.

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

The bomb over mountain is emblem of 3./KG76, the bomb hitting England in emblem of 4./KG76 and emblem of 5./KG76 is emblem no.358 published in above-mentioned book.

Robert

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Christian, i have this as being the earlier emblem of 4/KG76 used through the summer 1940, later replaced by the duck with a gunsight superimposed.
CONFUSED ???

Best regs,
Steve.

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Hi Robert

Thank you for your reply. Interesting! What sources/evidence do you know of that show emblem 358 in the rolfe/Ketley as being that of 5./KG76 instead of 9./KG76? Looks like i'm going to have amend the book a little.

Clint

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

There are 5-6 photos of damaged F1+HN with this emblem on the nose.

Any chance of posting some of the photos? I would very much like to see a photo of a 5./KG76 aircraft. Have not been able to find any before. What publication are they in? Again thanks for your time in helping me identify the emblem for 5./KG76.

Clint
