Re: Photos 7-12

Since this is a wartime photo, the caption may be for propaganda purposes.

Re: Photos 7-12

Ed, not sure what you mean.

The text may be a bit off, but are we to doubt the date? Tripoli, where Castelbenito is located, fell in early 1943.

The United Nations was mentioned. I don't know if this term is general or specific. If specific, I'd like to point out the UN was not formed until 1945. That's all.

Re: Photos 7-12

The reference to the Allies as the "United Nations" predates the picture. It was first used by Roosevelt on January 1, 1942 in a declaration titled "Joint Declaration of the United Nations on Cooperation for Victory"

He moved to create a "grand alliance" against the Axis powers through "The Declaration of the United Nations," January 1, 1942, in which all nations fighting the Axis agreed not to make a separate peace and pledged themselves to a peacekeeping organization (now the United Nations) on victory.

Re: Photos 7-12

I have seen articles referring to United Nations well before United Nations were officially declared. I recall the victory in Tunisia being described as a victory of United Nations!
