At that time the italian name was used , by everybody, so Pola is right
Rémi Name lasted for over 2000 years as Pola |

Rémi is correct. The city did not become "Pula" (Serbo-Croatian) and "Pulj" (Slovene) until 1947. It was always Pola prior to that. The ULTRA signal cited in my previous post was from November 1943, so "Pola" is the correct spelling for that date. L. |

Port SYROS, on 31/1: Copy for information to : Sea Defence Commandant, ATTICA,Fliegerkorps X, Sea Rescue Detachment, ATHENS: The recovery of the pilot shot down near MYKONS has been concluded. 11 men from 8A-DL have remained behind on MYKONOS, 3 men have remained behind on DELOS WITH THE Arado. Pilot, Gefr. NAU, WILLY, was buried in the cemetery at MYKONS on 30/1. The search for the other a/c and crews was unavailing. Admiral AEGEAN Ops., will arrange to supply and fetch the men. WERE ENGAGED AND 2 PROBABLY SHOT DOWN THEY ARE STILL MISSING. 1 AR 196 AFTER BEING HIT WAS DITCHED AND TAXIED ONTO THE BEACH AT DELOS, THE CREW UNHURT. 1 JU52 DITCHED, THE CREW SWAM TO DELOS (WORD ILLEG). CX/MSS/R.81 1 Ju88 search for the Ju.52 which crashed out of a convoy during the forenoon of 28/1, Ju52 discovered burnt out on PARNIS. NOTE: For previous reference to operation ((WIREWORM)) see MSS/T78/101. |

Pola is historically correct for the city of Pula (today in Croatia).

The following entry was made in the KTB of Gen.d.Lw.b.Ob.d.M. for February 1944 (translated from German)
Extract from report Seenotdienst dated 2.2.44. Addition to report dated 29.1: Athen 27.1. Qu. 5852/23 Ost, 3 Ju 52 and 3 Ar 196 shot down. 5 men from a Ju 52 of 1. and 3. Seetransportfliegerstaffel rescued themselves, 2 men from an Ar 196 of 1. Aufkl.Fl.Gr. 126 and 7 men from the Kriegsmarine (passengers) did the same. Missing are 9 crewmembers from 1. and 3. Seetransportfliegerstaffel, 4 crewmembers of 1. Aufkl.Fl.Gr.126 and 27 passengers. |
