Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay

Also Gilze-Rijen is not probable. As are Bergen, Deelen, Venlo, Volkel, Eindhoven, Havelte, Twente and Schiphol.
These kind of "open" shelters are not known in the Netherlands.
The only possible airfield with this kind of shelters was De Vlijt at Texel island. But that was not an Nachtjagd airfield.
Maybe this picture was taken at an airfield in Schleswig-Holstein?

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay

It's an 'E-1', W. Nr. 3420. Extended rear fuselage is consistent with the early 'E' production run.

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay

Hello all,

Jaap is right if this was an open arched hangar construction but another picture of the same grouping of aircraft (see Adam's posting above) shows a real Werfthalle and - aside - moveable camouflage constructions which could be placed in front of this hangar to turn the building into a sort of hill.

I believe to remember that this Bf110 had the chevron marking of the Ia of the II./NJG 2 which at that time was Oblt. Sigmund.

Jaap does certainly remember similar, yet straight sloped constructions from the Dutch Bergen airfield, made during an low level attack of Bostons (if I am correct) in front of a hangar there. This beautiful series of photo's is published in the Bergen book of Johan Schuurman.

All the best, Marcel

Hello Marcel,

The Kracker data base lists Two Rudolf Sigmund both in Stab II./NJG 2 (see explanation in that base)
One (Oblt) with 2 scores gained in June 1942, the other (Maj.) with 26 scores the first one being registered in January, 4, 1943. Picture displays 8.

Regards, Franck.

Hello

Rudolf Sigmund died as Hauptmann and Gruppenkommandeur III./NJG 3 in the night of 2/3 October 1943. I guess that 'Major' Sigmund is an error or not the same person.

All the best, Marcel
