Re: P-40 crashed south Salerno, any idea?

Salerno,

Earlier reference to Sicily perhaps (only) because 33rd FG was stationed there in Sep 1943.
Also see http://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/lcc...ed-1/seq-2.pdf
where death of Major Crast is commemorated.

Group or squadron report for 15 Sep 1943 may shed more light. Salerno is perfectly possible if mission of 33rd FG was to that area that day.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: P-40 crashed south Salerno, any idea?

A little addition: on 13 Sep 1943 33rd FG had moved to Paestum airfield, which I think is near Salerno?
This brings Major Crast cose to the area...

Regards,

Leendert
