Re: Is this an unknown Me 262 photo (eBay)?

Hello Denes,

this is a well known photo already published in the KG51 chronicle of Wolfgang Dierich showing Olt Batel´s Me262 after war. He bellylanded the plane on 8th of May `45 near his home in Northern Germany coming from Saatz / Zatec.

That one was published in Werner Girbig's Kampfgeschwader Edelweiss which originally came out in 1973. It's said to be 9K+FB (although markings aren't that clear on the printed version) and its pilot flew it from Prague (IIRC) to near his home at the end of the war.

Re: Is this an unknown Me 262 photo (eBay)?

As noted above, this Me 262 is the one that Lt. Wilhelm Batel of KG 51 flew out of Prague on May 8, 1945 and bellied in near his parents' home at Pomeissell near Lüneburg.

The aircraft was coded "9K+FB" as apparently noted in the pilot’s flight book (from St./I./KG 51) with the "F" most probably in green and just fainly visible in the photo. Based on its camouflage scheme it is from somewhere within the 1106XX to 1108XX werknummer range.

The photo first appeared in Wolfgang Dierich's book "Kampfgeschwader Edelweiss" (Ian Allen, 1975) along with a description of the event by Batel.

Cheers,

David
