Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

Hi Peter,

This is a most interesting thread. Regarding the Luftwaffe aircraft you have recovered, have you documented any Motor Werknummern from these crashes? While I am interested in any Luftwaffe motor data you might have, I am particularly looking for WNrn. from the Fw 190 A-9s and F-9s you have found. I am attempting to get an idea how many, if any, A-9s and F-9s flew with BMW 801D instead of the specified BMW 801TS.

Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

Hello Steve Sheflin
Thank you for your contribution of May, 11th 2008. You certainly point out an interesting item. Indeed we found a few times BMW801D engines at Fw 190A-9 sites f.i.:Fw 190A-9 Werk Nummer 205266 13/JG3, Feldwebel Karl W. Kleinemeier, Jan.14th 1945 with the following engine nrs. 3321 D 801.317-044 20 / 22 37 3259 II JGZ / 127 3 8 S 447 and 3350-4 801 0-731.1301. (JGZ= BMW Flugmotorenbau G.m.b.H. München 13, Lerchenauerstrasse 76, Werk München) We also dug up parts of Fw 190A-9 Werk Nummer 205241 Stab/JG3 Gefr. Bodo Siegfried Jan. 14th 1945 but of this one I’ve to look first for the data on the BMW-engine parts which I don’t have on hand. But it certainly is interesting that there were exceptions of which we learn from records that not all Fw 190A-9 were fitted with 801TS engines. The difference between practice and theory ? Any idea why these exceptions took place ? As soon as I’ve more info about the other A-9 reg. its engine nrs. I’ll let you know on this forum site.
regards,
Peter Monasso
