Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hi Nick,

I think that I have found another picture of this aircraft with the ridge in the background. If so, to my eye the werknummer seems to be 140108 which turns out to be a Rechlin-based test Arado that was sent to Neuburg am Donau to be used as a two-seat aircraft carrying an observer to the viability of the deichselschlepp (rigid-pole method of towing) of the SG 5041. It was tested there in February and March 1945 by pilot Herr Erich Klockner.

However, this is what it should look like:

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hi Jim, fantastic photo of 140108 towing an SG5041.
The airframe in the photo above has been identified also as 140108 over at the LRG. However I cannot see myself the werknummer on the tail and also it does not exhibit the modifications to the rudder and rear for the towing equipment although this could have been reversed, but why would you bother to do so. Just my thoughts, regards, Chris

Hi Chris,

You have a very valid point. In fact, the above photo shows extensive modification to the upper rear fuselage that would have to be removed.

Thanks,

Jim
