Re: eBay: German intrest

The color shots make me wonder if they were taken with contemporary color film (Agfa, Kodak or whatever) or colorized years after the war? They seem to have been taken by one individual who belong to 297. Inf.Div. from at least 1941 to 1945, and that is a bit strange given the high turnover in that division caused by casualties. Just a thought.

Hi Gents,

Sorry Larry but these shots have been published in Signal during the war.
They are, indeed, Agfa colour slides and have been - maybe - modified, if necessary, for publication.
Nothing extraordinary, just PK pictures.

Regards,
Franck.

Hmmm...………..I don't doubt you for a minute, Franck, but one aspect of this still seems a little strange. The PK correspondents and photographers typically visited a unit, did their story and took their photos, and then departed, usually within a few days or weeks of their arrival. But these are all captioned and accredited to one unit, 297. ID, and span the course of the war 1941-45. This is not consistent with the usual pattern for the PK people and how they operated.

I have all signals publications and i cant find any of these pictures in them. Mind you Signal was not the only war time publication.
