Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi there Gang,
I was kindly provided today by Martin Reiher, son of Uffz. Gerhard Reiher, from 8./JG 3, with a picture of an Erla built Bf 109 G-10, flown by his father in late 1944 - early 1945. https://www.flickr.com/photos/280920...in/dateposted/ The machine is said to be "Blaue 2" and the W.Nr. is partially legible. After scrutinizing it to the best of my ability, I read xx1617 which would point to W.Nr. 491617. Any known losses for this W.Nr. batch ? Any details on this particular machine ? Thanks in advance Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hello Marc-André,
a beautiful picture indeed, a perfect late 1944 G-10 from Erla. Werknummer 491617 does not fit, as this Werknummernblock ends at 491530. There was a 490617 with BAL 5th November 1944 and a 151617 with BAL 5th February 1945 and damaged 19th Febuary 1945 with KG (J) 6. Greeting Carl

I'm a little concerned that the engine is running but the cockpit appears to be empty!

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Ah, great information again, Carl!
After checking again the picture, there is more then a fair chance that the actual W.Nr. is 490 617 indeed. Given the angle of the plane regarding the photographer, the 9 and the 0 do look merged together... Thanks again for your highly valued help ! Cheers Marc |

Nick,
Don't you worry ! One can see the top of the head - with Mütze - of Reiher's Erster Wart, who scrutinizes his engine gauges... Cheers Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
You're welcome, Franck. As for the copyright, no worries: this batch of images was posted on my flickr pages at the direct request of Martin Reiher, son of Gerhard Reiher, the former 8./JG 3 Flugzeugführer.
Cheers Marc |
