Hello all,
I am a virgin when it comes to this site! This is my first query - be gentle please. I am building a 1/72 Ju52 to be finished in a splinter camouflage. I am also awaiting a kit of the DFS 230 glider which I wish to show as a 'partner'. I understand that in order to tow this glider, the Ju52 was fitted with something called a 'Schleppsporn 6000'. Can anyone tell me exactly what this is and where I can find a pic of one please? I have had no luck so far. Also the location of any pics concerning the towline attachments. Many thanks in anticipation. |

Re: Schleppsporn 6000
Hi, Peter...
Welcome aboard... ![]() I've tried to find some information of pictures of the Schleppsporn 6000 but without any success. However, quite often, the DFS was towed rigidly behind a Ju52, known as Starrschlepp, as you can see on this link: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models/Aircraft/DFS-230-glider The rigid-tow Starrschlepp arrangement, and how it was tested using a Dornier Do17 as tug aircraft, can be seen on this site: http://www.luftarchiv.de/ On this site, the menu is down the left-hand side. You should select the category Sontiges Gerät, and then Schleppverfahren, and that might just prompt you to go out and buy lots more models to make under the heading of Gliders and Tugs... ! Scary picture time, too, looking back at a DFS230 attached to the tail of a Do17... a little too close, for my liking. You could almost hold a face-to-face conversation with the DFS pilot... ! Henschel Hs126s and Junkers Ju87s were also widely used as tugs for the DFS230, and the Squadron/Signal publication on the Ju87 (ISBN: 0-89747-175-X) on page 35, has an excellent photo of a cable attachment on a Ju87, and a line-drawing diagram, too. These were not to be rigid-tow arrangements. Hope this is of help. If you're lucky and patient, you might find someone else coming up with the goods on the Schleppsporn 6000 in due course. Regards... Paul |

Re: Schleppsporn 6000
Hi Paul,
Thank for the information and a very quick response to boot! I don't know whether you make models, but coincidentally, I have just received an email from my favourite on line model shop, Relish Models (with action as quick as your reply!) saying that my DFS 230 is on it's way. Thanks once again for the info - you never know someone with the schleppsporn data could be out there. Best wishes, Peter |

Re: Schleppsporn 6000
Well, for a start... 1 may be something, but 6000 might be considered a tad excessive...
![]() Seriously though, yes, Peter, I do make models... Luftwaffe WW2. Have you ever tried Hannants (link below)...? They're very good, too. www.Hannants.co.uk |

Re: Schleppsporn 6000
The fisrt pic, while not perfect doesn't seem to show anything extra attached to the Ju-52.
The second pic shows a Starrschlepp for a HE-111. Regards, Mike Last edited by Revi16; 4th January 2009 at 22:01. |

Guys!
Yeah yeah yeah! On reflection I should have been more careful with the subject of my first forum thread. I have now learnt my lesson - thanks for the initiation. Moving on - some fantastic relpies and a wonderful drawing on the 'S' unit (see! I have learnt) from Piero. Piero you are a star - well done and thank you all. I have not lost my virginity in vain. Best wishes to all, Peter |
