Desert: ID needed for two planes

Hello!

Can anyone shed some light on those two wrecks:
- a Kittyhawk with the code "RC";
- Hurricane Z4249.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Hey Chris

That Kittyhawk is a Tomahawk - not good enough! 'RC' seems to me to be a new personal code I cannot find any trace of it as a sqn code or as a known personal code.

Air Britain has Z4249 as serving with 30/208/450 and SOC 10/4/42. Are those people Italians?

Steve,

Ouch! Of course, it's a Tomahawk. Wrote my message too quicky.
Was there any S/Ldr or Wing-Co with the initials "RC" shot down in Spring 42 in the Desert?

Hurricane: aren't they Germans?

The Tomahawk codes aren't RC they are RG. Aircraft belongs to 208Sqdn and was one of a number of Tomahawk losses they had during May and Jun 1942.

...would also vote for Germans around the Hurricane-wreck.

OK Guys

Buz is the expert on P-40s and I don't pretend to be an expert on uniforms. I thought the headgear looked more Italian than German happy to be corrected. The main point is that Air Britain has the a/c simply as "SOC 10/4/42" whereas the photo seems to make clear that there is a bigger story to be found somewhere about the fate of Z4249.
