Werner Streib. 19-20 July 1940

I have it that Werner Streib claimed the first official night-fighter victory on 19-20 July 1940. I have two candidates for this loss, Whitley V P5007 No.51 Squadron and Wellington IC L7795 No.9 Squadron. Could someone please confirm which aircraft was shot down by Streib on that night?

Also what aircraft he was flying on that night?

Any help appreciated

Peter.

Since Streib made his claim at 02.15H which I believe should have been 01.15 UK time, the most likely victim is the Whitley listed below. This is based upon take off times of the two aircraft. I have not pinpinted either the claims places or the crash places on a map....

I also believe that Streibe flew a Bf 110C model.

Stig and Robert,

Many thanks for your replies, it is appreciated. It seems to be the Whitley then.

Peter
