Wreck of Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 27134
Dear Sirs,
I am looking for the whereabouts of the remains of a Bf 109G-6 wreck which had been recovered sometime ago "probably" in Germany. Though I do not have any information about the date and location of recovery, I have seen some parts of the wreck in a book. I hope that the remains are exhibited in a museum now. The Bf 109 was a G-6 with WNr 27134. No clue about its unit, date of crash and pilot. Is there any database where I can check for the recovered wrecks? Regards, Luka |

Re: Wreck of Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 27134
I have been told that the Bf 109G-6 WNr 27134 was assigned to III./JG1 and shot down on 3 November 1943 over Bad Zwischenahn, Germany. Its pilot, whom I do not know, managed to bail out and survived. Any more info about the details of this loss and the location of its wreck's remains are very much welcome.

Re: Wreck of Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 27134
Regarding the first post, I was wondering if anyone knows the book that is referenced. I too am seeking any info and photos of the wreck, and the recovery, and possibly anything from when it was active.

Re: Wreck of Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 27134
Unfortunately I cannot add more information about this specific crash, but it is interesting to note that III./JG 1 lost many aircraft and pilots that day. According to earlier research they lost 10 aircraft on 3 November 1943, including Werknummer 'brother' 27133, flown by Flg. Günther Ewald of 9./JG 1. This was 'yellow 10'. Among the other losses were also the Staffelkapitäne of 8./JG 1 and 9./JG 1.
III./JG 1 was stationed at Leeuwarden at the time, and they left the airfield at 12.43 hours. Their goal that day was to stop 556 American bombers and 416 US fighters that bombed targets in Germany (port of Wilhelmshaven). (Mombeeck) |

Thank you for the extra info. Pretty bad day. I wonder what the tenure of the pilots who were lost?
Are there any known photos of this machine...or possibly a similar machine from the same production batch that may have been also with JG1 thanks |

Re: Wreck of Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 27134
Hi TY,
I found this on page 194 of Eric Mombeek's 'Defenders of the reich, Jagdgeschwader 1, volume 2 1943'. The information in the first part of my post is based on my own research, which is mainly based on what I have found on the Kracker Archive. Vinnie |
