Unauthorised Flight in Spitfire

I have a fascinating three page letter from Flt Lt G Farish 63124, Engineer Officer, about his unauthorised flight in a Spitfire from Naples to the bridgehead at Anzion. It is written to "Tom Hughes" and there seems to be a 72 Squadron link, but I cannot quite work out any more details. He talks about Roy, Danny and Gilroy in the letter. Also about flying a Caproni 200 that 72 Squadron "owned". Farish, by the way, was Court Martialled after being found sane, severely reprimanded and reduced one years seniority.

Can anyone fill in any details? Date? Serial number? Squadron of aircraft etc etc?

Since posting this I widened my internet search....and found this;

Interesting story.
