Re: Heavy Bomber Attack on Paris Ball-bearing Factories 26 November 1943
JG 2 made 7 claims on this date: 2 Spitfires and 5 B-17s. They recorded 4 Fw 190 losses, all due to "Luftkampf".

Re: Heavy Bomber Attack on Paris Ball-bearing Factories 26 November 1943
Hi John Beaman and thanks for your reply!
For this action, I have the following resource (and some questins): Tony Wood claim list-RAF & US Fighter Commands - with annotated text. Issue I 1943 page 186 with this claims: ....same like in Kent D. Miller book Fighter Units & Pilots of The 8th Air Force (page 33) and Garry L.Fry Orli Duxfordu 78.stihaci skupina ve valce (czech edition od Garry L. Fry The 78th FG in WW II) Claim 26.11.43 Lt. W.M. Wesson 78th FG 82nd Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 FW 190 10.30-11.20: Beauvais Claim 26.11.43 Lt. H.S. Askelson 78 th FG 83rd Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 Me 109G 10.30-11.20: Paris Claim 26.11.43 Maj. J.C. Price 78 th FG 84th Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 Me 109G 10.30-11.20: Paris Claim 26.11.43 Maj. J.C. Price 78th FG 84th Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 FW 190 10.30-11.20: Paris....but in Tony Wood claim list - viiifc1143 page 23 is missing Lt. W.M.Wesson claim Claim 26.11.43 Lt. Ashelson 78 th FG 83rd Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 Me 109G - Paris-Beauvais Claim 26.11.43 Maj. Price 78th FG 84th Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 Me 109G - Paris-Beauvais Claim 26.11.43 Maj. Price 78th FG 84th Sqn. 1 - 0 - 0 FW 190 - Paris-Beauvais From this link:http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.o...r-reports.html I have reports for: Lt.Askelson: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.o...on-26nov43.jpg Maj. Price: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.o...ce-26nov43.jpg ....but without Lt. Wesson claim - Miller and Fry book recognize this victory and for me,score for 78th FG is 4-0-0 for this day. 78th FG lost this day 3 pilots: Cat.E 26.11.43 2/Lt. John W. Herrick: P/W 78th FG 82nd Sqn. P-47C-2 41-6188 MX-U Me 109s: EPJ Chantilly Cat.E 26.11.43 F/O Ralph E. Cormier: KIA 78th FG 83rd Sqn. P-47D-5 42-8681 HL-E Me 109s: Paris Cat.E26.11.43 2/Lt. Wayne W. Dougherty: P/W 78th FG 84th Sqn. P-47D-5 42-8573 WZ-L Me 109s: Paris EPJ Moiselles From MACR´s and Maj. Price/Lt.Askelson is clear, that 78th fought with Fw 190 (JG 2 and JG 26,which claim 2 P-47) and Bf 109. Is know, which unit it could be? I would be very glad for any information that would help me describe the day a little more detail and try to assign one of whom shot down or confirmed overclaiming. Thanks for all help. Faenor |

Re: Heavy Bomber Attack on Paris Ball-bearing Factories 26 November 1943
Hi,
in searching about clash this day I have found this info in the book Thunderbolts of the U.S. 8th Army air Force (March 1943-February 1944) by Tomasz Szlagor (Kagero publishing) info, that this day 7/JG 2 loss Staffelkapiten Lt.Wilhelm Flegel von Farnholz flying in Bf 109G W.Nr.410496 "Weisse 1". Same info are from this links: http://www.aircrewremembrancesociety...anPilotsF.html http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=9757 From this link I have info, that Uffz. lrich Hueck from 6./JG 2 claim of B-24 is in fact P-47 (B-24 not particiúate on this raid) http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?p=133427 Are know some other losses (or dammaged, crash landing) of Bf 109 of JG 2 from this date? Same info for Fw 190 are welcome. Faenor |

Re: Heavy Bomber Attack on Paris Ball-bearing Factories 26 November 1943
Hello ,
I can add that F/O Ralph Cormier went down in a small river at Dampierre-en-Bray , which is located west Beauvais . He was initially buried at the Poix-de-la-Somme military cemetary , grave # 63 . Next to him , grave # 62 was 2nd Lt Merle A. Nienaber , a 94th BG 333rd BS pilot whose bomber B-17 # 23185 "Queen Bee " crashed at Londinières ( south-east Dieppe ) the same day , victim of german fighters. Nienaber's chute did not open while leaving the bomber . If ever you have a picture of Ralph Cormier I'm interested . Hope this help a little . Zorglub. |
