Willy Tritsch air Victories
Willy Tritsch was a noted Tank Buster with 60 Tanks to his credit. Is there any evidence however that he was credited with the 20 aircraft attributed to him?

There are no claims for him in the Tony Woods claims list.

Yea John I noticed that. I wonder if these were aircraft attacked on the ground.

Re: Willy Tritsch air Victories
Hi Rob
He made at least nine air victories over Soviet aircraft in 1941 as an unteroffizier with 5./LG2:- 22nd June 1941 I-16 0318 hrs 22nd June 1941 Seversky 0636 hrs 22nd June 1941 Seversky 0638 hrs 22nd June 1941 SB-2 1308 hrs 5th July 1941 SB-2 1312 hrs 26th July 1941 DB-3 1820 hrs 27th July 1941 SB-3 1318 hrs 1st September 1941 I-153 1706 hrs 26th September 1941 I-16 1433 hrs These come from a micro film listing only 5./LG2 claims between 22nd June 1941 and 24th December 1941, they are without a place name or altitude! If Tritsch stayed with this staffel throughout 1941 then the nine listed are his only claims for 1941. It is usual for the micro films in July 1942 to list all claims for all units on a daily sheet, and I can find nothing more for him, however previous to July 1942(again for most units) there are the individual units claims listed as per staffel in beautiful type. It is very possible that this type micro films for his unit has not survived, so therefore it is perfectly possible that he made further claims in the first half of 1942, but none after that time. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Willy Tritsch air Victories
Johannes,
II(S)/LG2 became I/SchG1 in January 1942 and Tritsch was WIA 28 Apr 1943 with 1./SchG1 Is there anything under the later unit (I./SchG1)? Furthermore, great information on 5/LG2, there are many Knights Cross winners that served in II(S)/LG2 which there is little information or no information at all on thier claims that I can find, such as Dommeratzky -29, Dorffel -30, Druschel - 7, Frank - 8, Hoffer-Sulmthal -9, Menapace -7, Stollnberger -45 etc. Is there anything listed for these pilots? Regards, Craig...

OK, so you are inferring that Tony Woods missed these claims? Possible, but seeming unlikely give the span over several months. |

Re: Willy Tritsch air Victories
It sounds like Johannes got these claims from a separate document.

Re: Willy Tritsch air Victories
Hi Guys,
The claims are in the films, but well hidden in SG 77's annerk victory lists. Tony did miss them, as from talking to him, he was pretty tired after a few solid years of reading the films and putting them on the web, for which I remain very greatfull. Regards Russell. |
