William james Corbin DFC died 1917-2012

Very sad news that 'Jimmy' Corbin DFC has died aged 95 . he was a Maidstone area resident, who flew around 500 combat missions during ww2 & also trained Pilots. there are some wonderful video clips of him on the net if you look! God rest his soul, another of the few gone.

Re: William James Corbin DFC died 1917-2012

Hello Tim! Yes it does sound a lot doesnt it! when I heard that he'd died, I checked here to see if anyone had informed this site & they hadnt, so I looked on the net & the 1st write up I found, said exactly what I wrote, so I entered it onto this site, then I looked elsewhere & another said over 550 & a third said an exact number of either 553 or 557 or similar. I think the 'combat' part is/was an error & the count must have included training sessions. a proper research will find out for sure. Yes there are several tv (video) clips of interviews with him on the internet just search Jimmy Corbin dfc or William James Corbin dfc & you will find some. If you have difficulty finding them, let me know your email address & I'll look them up & send them to you. I understand you are one of the few yourself? Hats off to you Tim & my best regards, Bernie Frankiestein

Hi Tim, 553 operational hours is what I SHOULD have written! sorry for the misleading '500 combat missions' that was obviously the error that I inadvertantly quoted..............ive stored the article & can send via email but cant see how to add it to the forum though???
