Re: Heinz Bär book - weblog of author

Dear all,

I made small update of my weblog. If anybody would have any documentary evidence related to H. Bär training before the war, I would much appreciate it. It would help us to precise our 2nd chapter.

kind regards

Hi
At your website I reading that:

" Interesting point is that Bär mentioned in argument with Göring on July 31, 1943 that he was shot down 2 times over sea, but only 1 such case is known to us"

According "Elita Luftwaffe" by R. Michulec he was shot down two times:

2nd September 1940 - his Bf 109E-3 W.Nr. 3714, was damaged by Spitfire over London. After two hours Bar was rescued by German ASR.
7th September 1940- he was shot down over Channel again. After rescue he was told witch Göring by 1st time.

I am afraid that info about 7. September is not true. It might be confusion with another but similar incident from BoB which ended in belly landing. There are 3 other losses of I./JG 51 on this date, but not related to Bär.

anyway, thanks for your post

Jan,

Is the date, location and circumstances of the other crash-landing incident by Bär during the Battle of Britain known?

Thanks

I would not use such a definite statements unless they can be proven defintelly impossible, ie. verified by several independent documents. Also, is the info reputedly coming from Baer, a quote of period document or just a post-war recollection of some veteran?
As a side not, heve you found any narratives for Baer's combats?
S pozdravem
