Hs 129 B-2/XVI ZS?

An interesting detail is included in various Hs 129 B-2 loss records, in form of a code placed after the sub-type: Hs 129 B-2/XVI ZS (three occurrences were found so far: W.Nr. 141582, 141722 and 141875, all lost in combat in late 1944/early 1945).
Although this suffix probably refers to a specific armament Rüstsatz, the meaning could not be fully explained yet.
Does anyone know the solution?

Wild guess

Hello, Dénes,

could "XVI ZS" relate to the FuG 16 ZS? According to TRENKLE (1986) this was a special version of the FuG 16 Z operating on a different frequency (40,3 - 44,7 MHz). It was built into ground support aircraft as a replacement for the FuG VIIa. Trenkle explicitly names the Hs 129.

Re: Hs 129 B-2/XVI ZS?

That sounds like a plausible explanation, Stefan.
I have seen such a suffix occurring with Bf 109Gs, too (e.g., Bf 109G-6Y, refering to the FuG 16Y radio set).
Thanks.
