Question Gilbert Geisendorfer,DKiG

Gentlemen,

Have you got anymore information about Gilbert Geisendorfer who was a German Cross in Gold winner of KG-51? I read some accounts of his flying experiences in the He-111 bomber over the Eastern Front in a book called Kampfgeschwader 53 "Legion Condor" by Heinz Kiehl. He had so far completed 254 combat missions and was a Oberleutnant in the middle of 1943. What was his total combat sorties before the end of WWII? Nothing so far of his combat flying of late 1943,the entire year of 1944,and the few early months of 1945. Any information about his later combat career is welcome.

Sincerely,

Edward L. Hsiao

Re: Gilbert Geisendorfer,DKiG

Gilbert flew with KG 53 not KG 51. Joining in June 1941, he flew much of his time with II/KG 53 and after being shot down by Flak on 31 Jul 1943 spent the rest of the war with IV/KG 53 and then an instructor on a flying school in Denmark. I have his brief biography and copies of his photos. I wrote about him and his BO Josef Schmauz for Flypast some time ago

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your reply. I wonder what Gilbert Geisendorfer did after WWII?

Sincerely,

Re: Gilbert Geisendorfer,DKiG

There doesn't appear to be a loss report for the 20-Jan-43 incident, though that wouldn't be unusual. However for 31-Jul there are two II./KG 53 losses reported with no pilot name, a third with the pilot being KIA and a fourth with a missing crew.

Chris, do you by chance have a WNr. for Geisendorfer's incident? Offhand the He 111H-16 WNr. 160692 would seem the best match. Would love to be able to add any information to any of these incidents.
