Uffz Gast 9./JG5 1942

Hi guys

Another JG5 pilot query!

Uffz Gast of 9./JG5 appears in one listing of JG5 claimants as having been credited with shooting down two Pe-2s on 24 January 1942.

Any information available, please?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Uffz Gast 9./JG5 1942

Hi Brian

See our thread about Günther Scholz, long and running. We are debating when III./JG 5 came into existence. On one hand mikrofilms list two claims for Stab.III./JG 5(6th February 1942) and 9./JG 5....actually again 24th January 1942. Could be these happened exactly a year later, or III./JG 5 existed earlier!

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Uffz Gast 9./JG5 1942

Hello

It's true, that it's obscure and I hope not to obscure it even more!
I think a year error,or more simply staffel.( in brackets,I have no Gast in my list of JG5 pilots)

The III/JG5 is the ex IV/JG1,if it existed before 24/1/42 under this name, why the 12/02/42 during OPERATION "DONNERKEIL",the claims of Herbert Hupperts(spitfire) 12/JG1 (future 9/JG5) and Hermann Segatz (spitfire) 11/JG1 (future 8/JG5) are recorded in IV/JG1 and not III/JG5.

2)two losses of 12/JG1(9/JG5) are recorded the 27/02/42
Bf 109 F-2 Wnr.8097 (HUSUM)
Bf 109 F-1 Wnr.5654 (HUSUM)

so,the claims of Gast is not in 9° staffel or in 1943 ?

michel

regards

Re: Uffz Gast 9./JG5 1942

Hi Guys

Unlikely 1943 as III./JG 5 daily claims being submitted, and these not on them. I too cannot find a Gast with JG 5. Other claimer for 24th January 1942 also claimed a Pe-2, and was later with other JG 5 Staffel. Also why would JG 1 be claiming Pe-2's. Other pilots claim with 9./JG 5 over Finland/Russian front!

Kind Regards

Johannes

P.S What is your source for the Gast claims, do you have times? By memory other pilot claimed 0925 hrs.
