57 Squadron Lancaster ED779 Combat Report 8-9 July 1943

Dear all,

57 Squadron Lancaster ED779 was Cat. B damaged in a German night fighter attack on 8-9 July 1943; who can provide the Combat Report/additional info on the extent of damage?

Cheers and thanks, Theo

Re: 57 Squadron Lancaster ED779 Combat Report 8-9 July 1943

Hi Theo,

Copy of CR sent via email but nothing mentioned about damage on the bomber. Observe serial no ED277 in the CR but ED779 in the ORB.

Cheers, Peter

Thanks for these details and for the Combat Report Peter, ED277 must be a typo then in the Combat Report, as this was an Airspeed Oxford serial number.

Cheers, Theo

Re: 57 Squadron Lancaster ED779 Combat Report 8-9 July 1943

.. one more thought -I also have another 57 Squadron Lancaster as damaged (Cat. AC) in a fighter attack on 8-9 July 1943, serial number ED308; what info is available on the extent of damage to the Lanc/place/time of the encounter?

Cheers, Theo
