Date Convention

Gentlemen:

After a discussion many months back, I note that members are again posting dates in a strictly numerical format like 7-9-44. Is that Sept 7, 1944 or July-9, 1944?

Forgive me, but we Americans and perhaps others in the world use Month-Date-year. I realize that 80% of the remainder probably use date-month-year. However, I think it will be more helpful to all involved if we use the actual month name. I do not care if it is 7-Sep-44 or Sep-7-44 as long as we use the month name. This way, regardless of format, it is clear what date you are writing.

Let’s all try to do this on every post.

Re: Date Convention

Sorry John, made a mistake while trying to merge the threads into one discussion.

The two answers have now been lost, or more exact, their poster's information.

My apology to those taking their time to answer John's request.

Re: Date Convention

I think it is time for Amis to adopt the more logical day-month-year date convention. Think about this: if someone suggested that a clock displaying hours, minutes and second should display them in order minutes-hours-seconds, he would be considered ripe for looney house...

Re: Date Convention

Gee guys,

How many times are we going to revisit this one? To the best of my knowledge, date conventions, America versus Europe, using only numbers, are, using July 9, 2006 as an example:

American: 7/9/06, 07-09-06
European: 9/7/06, 09-07-06, 9.7.06

While a few American advertisers have thought they'd get "classy" by using 7.9.06, as far as I know, it is not a standard American dating convention.

So, we would be reasonably safe in using the European 9.7.06. Of course, spelling it out avoids all confusion.

Regards,
Richard

PS. Of course, we could eliminate the first 12 days of the month...
