Crashed JU52 "G6*CC" in May 1941 over Crete.

Dear members,

In May 1941 a JU52 ( G6*CC) was shot down by MG-fire south of Heraklion. (Crew KIA).

Maybe someone knows what day between 20.05.41 and 01.06.1941 it crashed and which unit did it belong to ??

Warmest regards,
Jagdkommando

Jagdkommando...

The 'G6' code was used by several units. According to Barry Rosch's Luftwaffe Codes, Markings & Units 1939-45, KGrzbV102 had Gruppenstab letter of 'C', with staffel letters of N,P,R and S. So, perhaps G6+CC was from that unit. It later changed its designation to III.Gruppe/TG3 in May 1943.

Re: Crashed JU52 "G6*CC" in May 1941 over Crete.

Hi Jagdkommando

According to my notes, I have reference to G6+KL being lost on 20 May 1941 and note that its unit was shown as KGrzbV.101. Sorry, no mention of G6+CC in my notes.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
Brian

Please refer to http://www.wiki.luftwaffedata.co.uk/wiki/index.php/G6 it may help a little.

Also on page 25 of "FlugZeug Foto-Archiv Band 3" there is a phot of G6+KQ (WerkNr 7227) reputedly from 4./KGrzbV 105. While page 42 holds a photo of G6+IK also of KGrzbV 105.

Hi,

I think that this bird crashed in Dezember 1941.
I have two photos of it with caption: "The rescue operation of the JU52 G6+CC in the mountains of xxxxx 04.12.1941." The plane has thin yellow band around the fuselage.

Regards

Robert

Re: Crashed JU52 "G6*CC" in May 1941 over Crete.

The copies u have are from my previous website. I have as mentioned before the originales.
Some years ago we found out what mountain it crashed on,and this year we will pherhaps travel there.
Last summer during our vacation on Crete I almost had the opportunity to meet the cretan resistancefighter who shot down the plane single-handed.
Today he lives in USA,but he come back to Crete on vacation every summer. Hopefully we will meet him this summer.

I'm really eager to find out more about the crew on this plane and when it crashed.

The photos u have copied shows the rescue group in dec.1941, but the plane had laid there since May 1941.

So it belonged to KGrzbV 105 ??

Re: Crashed JU52 "G6*CC" in May 1941 over Crete.

With reference to G6+KL, Shores et al on page 351 of "Airwar for Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete" records the following about the assault on Heraklion at 1800 on 20/05/41:-

"The big tri-motors crashed, or glided down to force-land all round the area, 15 burnt-out wrecks subsequently being found in the immediate Heraklion sector alone, while others fell in the sea KGrzbV 101 bore the brunt of the losses, at least eight of this unit's aircraft being shot down including G6+KL (Oblt Hans Rehrmann), G6+GK (Ofw Heinz Otto) and G6+EK (Uffz Helmut Bierwendt)."

And Rosch lists G6+CC under KGrzbV 102 on page 31 - no mention of sources however...
