1 Dec. 43, Luftwaffe losses Brussels/Leuven (Belgium)

December 1st, 1944:

Lt. J.T. Price, a P-47 pilot of the 356th FG/361th FS, claimed two FW 190’s in the Brussels-Leuven (Louvain) area, Belgium.
- one FW 190 he claimed near/over the city of Leuven (Louvain)
- a second FW 190 he claimed near/over the city of Brussels.

Also the RAF made two claims that day near/over Brussels:
- a FW 190 was claimed by a Spitfire pilot of 129 Sqn (pilot’s name unknown to me).
- a Bf 109G was claimed by a Typhoon pilot named F/Sgt G.K.E Martin of 609 Sqn.

Two FW 190 A-6 of Jagdgeschwader 2 were lost that day near/over Brussels: Werknummer 470035 and Werknummer 530930.

Has anybody got information with regard to:
1. the exact crash location of the four Luftwaffe aircraft mentioned above
2. the names of the four Luftwaffe pilots and their respective fates

There are a lot of Bf 109 losses on this date.... none using the location Brüssel, but would have to check the locations given for locations close to the city.

Thank you very much for the possible matches!

I checked the "Aviation History Society Norway website" and noticed you are its webmaster. Can one consult the Summarische Verlustmeldung for the Luftwaffe WWII as a guest or does one need to log in?

May I ask you whether you have any Luftwaffe losses listed "bei Löwen" regardless the date ? Löwen or Loewen is the German equivalent for the city of Leuven (In French and English referred to as Louvain).

The reason for my asking is the following:
Somewhere around 1943 or 1944 a dogfight occurred midway the Belgian cities of Brussels and Leuven (Belgium). A fighter plane got hit and climbed steeply towards the sky and exploded. The pilot managed to vacate the plane but unfortunately his parachute failed to blossom. He fell towards earth and was found dead in a field at Leefdael (Leefdaal) - a Belgian village situated halfway the Belgian cities of Brussels and Leuven (Louvain, Löwen). The date of this incident can’t no longer be remembered by the villagers of Leefdael (Leefdaal). According to them the unfortunate airman was an Allied pilot, but I’m not entirely sure about that fact. I assume it could have been a German pilot.

Are there any Luftwaffe pilots registered as killed at Leefdael (Leefdaal), regardless the date? The plane itself, however, exploded in the air and didn’t fall on the territory of Leefdael. The wreckage must have fallen in one of the neighbouring villages of Leefdael (Leefdaal) or even farther. The incident occured during the German occupation of Belgium.

Well, not much to go on, and as you might now for 1944 one has to consult Namentliche Verlustemeldungen for most losses.

This one is registered with Löwen as the location, but this pilot was not killed.

You will have to log in to search the Summary losses, until the new system is implemented. I had hoped to do this during the summer, but sadly a sudden illness and subsequent death of a family member put a stop to those plans.
