Mid-air collision at Duxford

A P-51 collied with a Skyraider. The P-51 which was a complete loss, but the pilot managed to successfully bail out at low level and is apparently fine and on his way to hospital to be checked over. The crippled P-51 crashed into an adjacent farmers field with no injuries on the ground. The Skyraider managed to land safely but is missing a large part of its starboard wing...

With what could have been the unthinkable worst case scenario of this collision versus one of the best possible outcomes, hats off to the Skyraider jockey for landing his beast and to the P-51 pilot also for his successful low level bale out... under the circumstances, good news all-round... |
