Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Yep Marc,

I understand ... BUT!

1/ Rotenburg - (Mombeeck)
for II./JG 3 is a good solution but obviously the photo doesn't seems to be taken in February.

2/ Bad Wörishofen?
II./JG 3 wasn't in Bad Wörishofen in May; III./JG 3 was.

3/ Sachau:
II./JG 3 was based at Gardelegen from 1/3/1944 to 7/6/1944 (all Group) ... with a detachment at Sachau, 27.4.44 - 7.6.44

Regards, Franck.

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi there Gang,

I chanced on two interesting pics on photo-war.com which are in dire need of full captions:

www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/14857550697/
IMHO, this is an Erla built Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 46. ... "Gelbe 4", 3./JG 52 (?), location unknown, Germany, Summer 1945. Source: www.photo-war.com. Any idea about the location and unit?

www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/15050584765/
IMHO, an Erla built Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 46. ... "Schwarze ?", 2./JG 5, location unknown, Northern Norway, Spring 1945. Source: www.photo-war.com, ID 4785. Any specific loss data?

Thanks in advance, folks!
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi Marc,
the first photo seems to belong to the same set of pictures as the rather famous one with Fw 190 "<3+", lying atop on a Ju 52 (printed e.g. in Classic Publication's "Jagdwaffe - War in the East 1944-45", p.154).
On russian websites I have seen some of those images captioned as "Groß Dirschkeim". If this is true, then the airfield in question is most likely Fliegerhorst Brüsterort in East Prussia. According to ww2.dk this airfield was home to I. and III./JG 51 during the spring of 1945, so perhaps our Bf 109 belonged to one of this Gruppen.

Cheers,
Christian

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Brilliant, Christian, many many thanks!

In fact, the well known Fw 190 "<3+", lying atop on a Ju 52, is next in line with the G-14 pic on that website (ID 5403). The general surrounding seems similar enough.

Thanks again!
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

All good, Christian, hope you too...

I realize I had already another pic of the same machine, found here:
http://www.forgottenairfields.com/ru...koye-s778.html

We progress... I will regroup both airfields under "Gross Dirschkeim, Königsberg".

Cheers
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi ther4e Gang!

Here we go with another question:

Thanks to Franck, I was made attentive that an Erla factory W.Nr. can be seen on this pic, stemming fro www.jg300.de,

www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/7866222580/
Bf 109 G-6 W.Nr. 41. ... "Grüne 8", Lt. Rudi Winter, 11./JG 300, Jüterbog-Waldlager, end of July 1944. Source: jg300.de.

After scorching our eyes, the first four digits are 36 82x. Thus this machine stems from the 36 xxxx Erla factory W.Nr. batch. I would be very grateful to have the actual RLM W.Nr.

Many thanks in advance!
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi there Gang,

Thanks to Franck, we now have another W.Nr. candidate for an Erla built machine:

www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/7866222580/
Bf 109 G-6 W.Nr. 41. ... "Grüne 8", Lt. Rudi Winter, 11./JG 300, Jüterbog-Waldlager, end of July 1944. Source: jg300.de.

The digits seem to be 36 82x, the last one being out of rame or illegible. This brings us back to a known eerie of Erla factory W.Nr.'s Any idea as to what RLM W.Nr. was given for this particular 36 820-36 829 batch?

All my thanks in advance
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

1.) Regarding Lorant the pilot wasn't Lt. Rudi Winter but Lt. Kurt Gabler (page 141 - 143, volume 1).
2.) Regarding Lorant it wasn't an "Green 8" but an "Red 8".
3.) Regarding Lorant it was Wiebaden-Erbenheim, March 1944, and not Jüterbog - Waldlager, July 1944.
---> Change your sources!

I don't know where you see an 36 82x? I see an 36 xxx only ... and an 36820 - 36829 batch is nonsense, didn't exist ... you can say that's from 411xxx - batch ... not more not less, sorry ...

Greetings
Rasmussen
