Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

Dr. Prien, Is 12/I (or possible just 12) just about ready? Since 9 covered into Jan43. The units I believe being covered are JG3(for a few months), JG5, one gruppe and staffel of JG26, JG51, JG52 and JG54.

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

Vol. 12/I is in the making but progress is slow owing to the enormous amount of source material to be digested and compressed into a readable format. I hope that we will be ready and able to come out with Vol. 12/I by the end of this year but this is not a promise.

As of now Vol. 12/I will comprise the general chapter on the ground and air war in the east between February 4th and December 31st, 1943, the usual comments on organization and equipment etc and will then deal with JG 3 - Stab, II. and III. Gruppe - , JG 5 - Stab, II. and III. Gruppe, 13. and 14. Staffel - and at least parts of JG 51. The rest of JG 51 as well as JGs 52 and 54 together with I. and 7./JG 26, will be dealt with in Vol. 12/II.

So far JGs 3 and 5 have more or less been completed while JG 51 is only half way through 1943. The general part also still needs much attention. The photographic section as of now is almost complete for JGs 3 and 5 but at best sketchy for JG 51.

Regards

Jochen Prien

That's great news! Will the volumes still be about the same size and page number since it will be going to a different publisher?

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

Yes, it appears they've achieved complete continuity. Volume 11/II was the first volume published by Buchverlag Rogge, and it's externally and internally indistinguishable from those put out by Struve Druck. (I might be imagining it, but Rogge's photo reproduction looks just a tiny bit sharper.)

Dr. Prien,

Do you have any update as to progress of the first book of Volume 12? And to when it might be published? I am, as I'm sure are many others here, very much looking forward to the continuation of this incredible series.

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

I'm with Jim P. wanting to know the progress of JFV 12/I. I was hoping it would be out by Christmas but it looks like maybe early 2012?

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

No, JFV 12/I will definitely not come out this year and we're working hard to make it available by early March 2012; I'm still in the progress of up-dating and correcting the manuscript, which is complete for JG 3 and parts of JG 51 while still pending for JG 5. So if everything keeps on going like it did so far, the manuscript may finally be delivered to the printer end of January / early February and from experience it takes about one month from that point to the release of the new volume. While this is going on, JFV 12/I is in the making with roughly a third of JG 52 being completed. We're aiming at a release of this at the end of 2012.

So, I have to ask you all to bear with us regarding the time it takes to turn out something decent.

Regards

Jochen Prien

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

I presume you meant JFV 12/2 in your last statement in your first paragraph, but am looking forward to whenever these next volumes appear. Thank you for giving us a progress update.

Re: Jagdfliegerverbande 12/I?

I just recieved my volume of JFV12/I today. Very clear pictures. Looked at some of the claims for the units and the losses. I now await the other two volumes. Great work Dr. Prien!
