Re: Sanitätsschule der Luftwaffe
Norbert and Chris -
Sanitätsversuchs- und Lehr-Abt. d.Lw. (Luftwaffe Medical Experimental and Demonstration Detachment) KStN: none. Located at Jüterbog and subordinate to L.In.14/RLM. Date of formation unknown. It was primarily responsible for carrying out airborne medical tests to evaluate equipment intended for air crew personnel, cooperate in the development of new oxygen and related equipment for air crew, and the examining of air crew before certifying them for return to active flying duty. On 25 March 1943 it reported the crash of a He 111 P-2 belonging to it at Jüterbog-Waldlager with 25% damage. It was still in existence in April 1945. Leiter/Kommandeur: Dr. (med.) Schneider (a civilian) ( ? - ? ) Oberstabsarzt Prof. Dr. (med.) Knoche (or Knothe) ( ? - ? ) 1944 (Source: Schröder, Prof. Dr. (med.) Oskar (Generaloberstabsarzt and Chef des Sanitätswesens d.Lw. (L.In.14)) – “Sanitätswesen der Luftwaffe”, unpublished manuscript dated 23.7.1945, in: NASM T-2/USSBS Captured German/Japanese Air Technical Documents, roll 8188, IP No. 360, 12 pages; Fischer, Hubert - Der deutsche Sanitätsdienst 1921-1945, 5 Bde (Osnabrück, 1982-1988), Bd. 3, pp.2003.] I think this is the only one with a flying component. I have never encountered any aircraft being assigned to the Academy or the 3 schools that I listed. Best, Larry deZ. |

Re: Sanitätsschule der Luftwaffe
Hi,
Chris... Thanks for these. Some I have seen before, but not the He111P. The last one with the crew member made me smile... possibly checking someone's x-ray on his laptop? Larry... Thanks for your input with the possible units - I was unaware of a unit designated Ärtzliche Akademie der Luftwaffe, or indeed that there were three Sanitätsschulen. You kindly allowed me a copy of a chart you'd drawn up some years back now, and still much in use, of the then known prewar codes. My 'guestimate' of the partial code is not listed on the chart. Perhaps you did not have any information to hand when I received the chart from you. Is there any additional information you may now have regarding the codes, and whether or not these units' aircraft were coded differently to others? I would be interested to know, if you have time to go digging for me. I have no additional information myself, sadly. Anyway, my regards to you both for your input. Much appreciated, as ever ;-) Paul |

Re: Sanitätsschule der Luftwaffe
Hello all,
there´s a short (3 pages) article in "Vom Original zum Modell; Junkers Ju 87" by Helmut Erfurt about the mentioned Ju 87 which is described as Ju 87 A-2 med. Sorry no unit code ore registration vissible nor mentioned in the text. In short it was modified to accommodate 3 persons. From front to back :Flugzeugführer, Testperson and a Doctor med. It carried a lot of medical instuments like a EKG (ECG in english) and a X-ray apparatus. It was fed by 2 24 V Batteries which where transformed to 220 V / 600 W and allowed a couple of X-ray shots. @ Larry, regarding Erfurt the tests where carried out by Sanitäts-, Versuchs-, und Lehrabteilung der Luftwaffe. No town or location named where it could have been . Maybe this rings a bell to You ?? Schoene Gruesze and have a nice week Norbert |
