Re: Ju 290 over Pitomnik

This was Ju 290 A-1, 0152 SB+QB. The a/c landed in Pitomnik, was provisionally repaired and returned to Stalino with a couple of wounded men.

Heuser

Heuser

It is difficult to know if you are correcting Brians statement under post 5 or if you are making a general reply to the basic and initial question by Rüdiger.

Also when replying, do you have the exact date of the incident with SB+QB?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Ju 290 over Pitomnik

Hello Stig,

13.01.43 is the correct date; a story of the whole incident (incl. photos of SB+QB in Stalino, the wreck of Ju 290 V1 in Pitomnik as well as a report about the damages of SB+QB) was published in the book "Die großen Dessauer" by Karl Kössler and Günther Ott - IMHO still the reverence (secondary) source regarding the development/operations/losses of Ju 89, 90, 290 and 390...

Regards

Heuser

This victory was credited to 237 IAP's commander Major Evgeniy Mel'nikov and his wingman Serzhant Ishtshenko flying Yak-1s, in Bolshaja Rossoshka area. Counterpart was identified as Ju-90.
