439 Sqn 24 April 1945

Can anyone confirm what 439 Sqn was doing on this day and whether they strafed a BV 222 at Seedorf?

Dive-bombing, and yes.

Oddly enough, Hans Amtmann was in touch a while back asking the same thing and for more information on this event.

Re: 439 Sqn 24 April 1945

I have done an article on the operational career of the BV 222 and there was something on the www linking 439 Sqn. There is much confusion as to those scuttled, P-51s and the BV 238

That's what Hans was trying to figure out. I suspect Drew mistook the BV 238 for the 222. It clearly states in the ORB that 439 shot up a BV-222.

Re: 439 Sqn 24 April 1945

Stephen
It is all down to dates and locations. In your previous post on the matter, you say 439 Sqn for both the BV 222 (said to be V9) and the BV 238? However, apparently Drew's claim was in September 1944 and some now say it was a French seaplane.....

Forget I said anything about Drew as I got mixed up with your comment regarding the P-51s and the BV-238.
