The reverse of the photo shows that it has been removed from an album and the caption torn. "…is, France" is legible. So, we need somewhere else where there were both a Ju 88 S-3 and an Me 410. In France there are few possibilities for the latter type since the only ones still there by D-Day—so far as I recall—would have belonged to II./KG 51, 1.(F)/121 or 1.(F)/33 and none of those units had very many. Ju 88 S were more common of course. |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
That is strange looking 'G'. To me looks more like a '5' or possibly a 'S'.

Enlarging it, I think it's a stencilled G but I wouldn't say so with certainty. |

GL or 5L. A most unusual, to me, tail marking. It is different from the three part transport codes.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Quite possibly the individual aircraft and 3.Staffel code letters, omitting the unit identification.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The Ju 88S-3 was most likely an aircraft from 3./KG 30:
- the unit was equipped with the S-3 from June until August 1944 - the unit was based at Le Culot in Belgium, they flew some missions from Paris-Orly during early August - since 1943 the last two digits of the unit code were repeated at the top of the rudder by that unit

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks everyone for trying to identify the unit of the Ju 88 in #1265.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi RudiS,
Your post #1273 illustrates an abandoned engineless Bf 109 K-4. Among its defining characteristics are: “K” wheel doors, the 4x sockets for its DB 605 D electrical connectors are barely visible on its firewall, large upper wing bumps, and open “K” tailwheel doors. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
