The Ar 196 A-5 (Wrk Nu 623183) was most likely photographed a Willow Grove NAS in Pennsylvania. It was from the Prince Eugen, test flown and left at the base in 1949.

It was subsequently sent to NAS Pensacola, but severely damaged. Not sure of current status.

The other Ar 196 A-5 from the Prince Eugen is at the NASM.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Please note TH+RU had the smal "th" letter like this "th+RU". Witch unit used this code ? I saw an other plane, a Fw 190 S-5 or S-8 at Bad Aibling with the code: BW+WC wrote like this : " BW+wc ' and yellow "27". Also a Ff 190 with small "vs+??".

Any idea about this unit ? Maybe a training unit ?

Best regards,
Lumabe.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello Everyone,
Lumabe is correct.
Regarding photo #1712, Fw 190 A-6 TH+RU, although not visible in this photo, it also features a yellow number 15 aft of its codes.
It is another in a series of at least ten Fw 190A-4, A-5, A-6, A-8 and S-8 versions that feature similar forms of markings: a St.Kz. where the first two letters are approximately 1/3 size, followed by a large yellow numeral behind.
Its right-wingtip-mounted-pitot tube, lack of lower wing coloring also suggests that it is a rebuilt airframe.
I currently have no idea of a unit for these aircraft.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Given the location of all these Fw 190s (airfields in and around Munich) and the large number of rather odd variants my best guess would be IV./EJG 1.
