Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Gents,
Post #4132 shows the Ju 88 G-1 "3C+FL" WNr.712186 of 3./I./NJG 4 at Bernburg. Compare with the photos below: matching open panel under the nose, camouflage netting hanging from the FuG 220 antenna, and camouflage pattern on the nose. Best, David

'sorry to be pedantic but 712186 was not with I./NJG4 when the photo was taken, even although it retained that Gruppe's tactical markings. 712186 3C+FL was struck off I./NJG4 strength on 11 January 1945 and allocated to Junkers Bernburg. On that date, I./NJG4 also struck off unit strength 710546, 712208, 712368, 714402, 714523, and 714809, while a further 17 G1 airframes were recorded as ready to transfer (to Bernburg) but still on unit strength. Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Rod,
I appreciate the clarifications. My comments should have stated “ex-JG 4”. Many thanks, David

Although many of the daily NJG4 strength & serviceability returns are missing from ULTRA in the critical period between 11 January - 24 February 1945 (critical because it looks like NJG4 became a 'clearing house' for Ju88G1s destined for Bernburg and Mistel conversion), what information is available shows the following G1s transferred from the Gruppen of NJG4 to Junkers Bernburg between 11 January - 24 February 1945: 710546, 712186, 712208, 712368, 714402, 714523, 714809, 714664, 712389, 713535, 714252, 714515, 714602, 714797, 710571, 710684, 714207, 714368, 714675, 714835, 710557, 712207, and 712246. I./NJG4 (established strength 40 a/c), for example, reached an peak actual strength of 51 a/c (on 3 February) during these transfers of G1s in and out of the Gruppe. The day following the last noted transfers to Bernburg on 24 February 1945, the actual strength returned to a more normal 29 a/c. Cheers Rod |
