172 Squadron Leigh Light Wellingtons
Prior to operations 172 had five leigh light Wellingtons with 10 normally configured Wellingtons on loan from RAF Cranwell in April 1942.
(Via ORB and Wing Commander Humphrey de Vere Leigh Papers) How many Wellington Mark VIII's where configured to take the Leigh Light by the end of 1942. What number was consigned to 172 Squadron? Regards Andy Bird |

Re: 172 Squadron Leigh Light Wellingtons
Andy,
Not a direct answer to your query, but have you read Donald Fraser's book, "Live to Look Again"? If not, I think you will find chapters six and seven (pp.87-162), of great interest. Fraser was in at the very start of the development, testing and ops in the LL Wellingtons. Col. |
