The Unit Cost of a RAF Fighters 1937-1938

Did anyone see what was the unit cost (purchase one plane) of a RAF fighter aircraft (1937-1938):

Gloster Gladiator Mk I
Hawker Hurricane Mk I
Supermarine Spitfire Mk I

Regards

If I remember correctly, some answers to your query you may found here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Decisive-Du.../dp/140870305X ... However, the unit cost I think is not there, just the value of the government contract for purchase of certain number of aircraft under the contract. Will check it later if nobody comes forward with something better in the meantime...

Re: The Unit Cost of a RAF Fighters 1937-1938

Aforementioned book, page 50: ...On 3 July 1936 the Air Ministry issued Supermarine a £2 million contract for 310 Spitfire Is, part of Expansion Scheme F.... This followed the first production order for 600 Hurricanes; all were to be ready by March 1939.

The above makes 1 No. Spitfire cost £6,451.61...

Ok, thanks I have seen the unit costs for one Spitfire Mk I sold to Estonia (12 units) as £12,604 (Estonian order for 12 Spitfires in 1939). Twice more the for RAF, but RAF had ordered over 300 and was one air force.

The amount of labour hours was about 50 % more for Spitfire then for Hurricane

Regrads,

mw

Perhaps beside the point, but few years later, in the year 1940, and perhaps later, there was the so-called "Spitfire Fund", where the general public was allowed to purchase a Spitfire for £5,000.00 for the RAF, so the above 1938 average figure (i.e., £6,451.61) derived from the contract price seemingly holds well.
