Re: eBay: Allied intrest
That fabric was trophies of war. Souvenirs for the victors.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I know that Ed
What I wonder is what happened to it. If it was all kept and stowed away at home we would basically be drowning in old fabric by now. I still believe most of it was thrown away pretty soon after "hacking" ![]() Cheers Stig |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I know you know that but others might not. No one can say what happened to it. Perhaps some ritual was carried out.
What happened to the souvenirs the Allies took from German aircraft? Best, Ed |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Luck was with me as I can identify the Hurricane 'V' posted by Marco in #1819 as P3453. Other photos of this aircraft have appeared on EBay, showing the same few pieces of vegetation as camouflage (!), the bent panel under the nose and with the serial number.
The Form 78 aircraft history card shows that P3453 was officially taken on charge by 501 Squadron on 28-5-1940. The only entry after that is to record that it was 'Struck off Charge May 1940'. Of course it could just as easily have bben lost during June. Regards, Martin. Last edited by Martin Gleeson; 22nd October 2021 at 23:55. Reason: Hit the wrong button ! |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Martin,
Thank you for your reply. I have seen so many burnt-out British aircraft with no identification. The resting position of this particular aircraft meant the fire burnt out and left what you see. Most unusual. I am just glad one more piece of information has been added to the historical record. Best, Ed |
