Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Regarding ER665, according to the Spitfire production list the pilot was killed:
http://www.airhistory.org.uk/spitfire/_prodn%20list.txt I know it's impossible to tell conclusively, but it looks like this aircraft made a successful forced landing, so presumably he died of wounds? |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hello,
For what it's worth, RAF Commands Forum's database has - Tape with ER714 and Glenwright with ER665. Sadly the December 42 ORB is so faint it is hard to read, but from what I could make out for these two pilots there is no a/c serial number in the collem for them. There is also a forum post that seems to suggest ER852 for Glenwright but I think that this is for earlier in the month ? HMAW,vol 3 has on page 223 "British Casualties - 152 Sqn Spitfire Vb - ER660 - Left 1425, Souk el Arba a/d patrol, shot down by Bf109s; PltOff. E,R,Gray Mia. Spitfire Vb ER665 Souk el Arba a/d patrol, shot down by Bf 109s at 1410. Spitfire Vb ER714 Souk el Arba a/d patrol, shot down by Bf 109s at 1410. (These two flown by Plt Off G E Glenwright and Sgt W H Tape)". "Fighters over Tunisia " has that it was a flight of four of 152 Sqn Spitfires as is noted on page 222 of HMAW vol 3. There is a note in HMAW vol 5 that updates and corrections will be entered in Volume 6. Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 3rd April 2022 at 01:31. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
"L5???, Has to be a Battle then, could be last letter "H" "M" or "N" of the Squadron code or a aircraft in Squadron letter.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
JK107 152 Sq went missing 24 April 1943 when it was lost to Flak near Massicault. It was flown by F/Sgt Utterson who was also MiA
The individual does not look German so the photos indicate the wreck was found later. From other photos around this time it seems No 152 Sq only used a single letter code, L. Cheers Stig |
