Re: eBay: Allied intrest

F/Sgt. John UTTERSON - 1369512 - RAFVR , became a POW, at Stalag Luft L6, Heydekrug. POW number 1107. ( ref: RAF Commands database).
HMAW vol 3 ( page 535) has the loss of JK107 as being the 24th April 1943, one of four of 152 Sqdn's Spitfires lost that day.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

The man in the photo looks to me to be an American Air Force officer.
Wonder if he could be identified by someone ?

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Stig/Alex - again thank you for your info!!! I really appreciate your knowledge and especially how you share it - thank you :-)

And there is another photo of Spitfire from MTO - probably serial number ER726 and then it is plane from 81. SQ (pilot F/O William Sydney Large (RCAF) )

Hi Faenor

First of all that photo is much harder to be certain about.
Yes it might be ER726 as you say, but it is much more difficult to be certain.

Actually I am much more interested in how you make the connection with W.S. Large and specifically ER726?

None of my sources mentions that.
The various aircraft forms seems to indicate this aircraft was lost on 2 Jan 1943.
No unit listed anywhere except known to have been supplied to North Africa.

Large was lost 1 Jan 1943 (aircraft unknown), so not impossible.
What source(s) do you have?

Thanks Faenor

Odd that the authors of MAW 3 could not locate these details.
Sounds solid enough.

Cheers

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

That is Battle L5226/QT-Q of 142 Sqn, shot down on 19 May 40, with 1 killed and 2 POW.
It was a popular backdrop for German soldiers' photographs.
