Re: eBay: German intrest

Hello!

Thank You, Ed. This one is interesting:
Ju 52s "Flugplatz Werro"
https://www.ebay.de/itm/FOTO-Flugpla...8AAOSwfCtfbM-K

There is no woods to see in the photo so it has to be quite large flat area. I know Werro/Vőru area well and I do not know any place other than lake Tamula (right besides Vőru) or Vagula which would fit. Ridali airfield is the closest and the photo certainly does not look like it.

The period is likely Feburary 1944 or so. Earlier in the year front was further away (no need for airlift) and later March-April lake ices would have been melted.

Still the above is educated guess at best. I certainly would like to hear more about airlifts to Vőru/Werro if there is information available.

Cheers,
Kari

Hi Kari,

My impression is that a landing area gets named after the nearest village or town even if it is not very close by.

Best,
Ed

Ju 52 WNr.3130 'KF+QR' was reported as a 95% loss in Feb-43 in the Med at Palermo.

Re: eBay: German intrest

Thank You, Jim!

In the meantime a Estonian friend pointed out that Heeresgruppe Nord had some sort of Commander HQ at Werro (Vőru):
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...bietNord-R.htm

So we have to adjust the time period probably winter 1942-1943? As there is only two Ju 52s in the photo perhaps my wording "airlift" was an exaggeration.

Cheers,
Kari
