Re: VMA-312 Corsair photos

Alex-

From your message title, you'd be better of searching for VMF-312 as that was the squadron designation at the time.

In the meantime for your viewing pleasure there's a nice color shot of one landing on USS Sicily here https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/vmf-312/

On the other hand, if you're looking for VMF-321 as in the text of your message, there's always https://www.koreanwar2.org/kwp2/usmc...nce/vmf321.pdf

VMFA re-designations of VMF squadrons did not come along until the mid 1970's.

Re: VMA-312 Corsair photos

Thanks for the links.
I am a little puzzled though.
Some photos showing the aft fuselage have VMA - 312 while others have VMF-312, both seem to be taken around the Korean time so why the difference ?

Re: VMA-312 Corsair photos

Alex, go to page 12 in following link: https://www.marines.mil/Portals/1/Pu...9000307700.pdf

Designation changed from VMF to VMA on 25 Feb 1952 for VMF/A-312.
Capability of squadron remained the same, but must have had something to do with primary task at that time.

Regards,
Leendert
