Re: IV/JG 54 info

In that case, I'll look forward to it in the future.

Will this be a book on IV./JG 54? (I hope, I hope, I hope.)

Re: IV/JG 54 info

John, I would like to link Lt. Sterr but Wolfgang Späte with his area listed as Arnhem makes that difficult for me. Sterr claimed at 05 Ost/52238 and Budde 05 Ost/52233, also make that difficult.

SteveR, I don’t write books, except the help that I have provided to Brian Cull in his upcoming book in which he is listing me as a co-author. I usually give my JG 54 work to robinoc to put on his site jg54greenheart (so some of my work can be viewed there. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to contact Bob lately but his site is still up.)

Re: IV/JG 54 info

Sterr’s claim is the last timewise and the furthest south…this matches best with FW211 if you compare it with the other claims….

Re: IV/JG 54 info

John, I have a Dorpsstraat at Nijmegan, which should be in 52259. Is this correct?

Re: IV/JG 54 info

The crash occurred on the houses of Dorpsstraat 148-150 at the village Hees. Three civilians were killed too. The village Hees is now "swallowed" by Nijmegen and the street is now called Korte Bredestraat. If you look at google maps and search for that street you will also notice the Petrus Kerk (Church). The crash occurred on the houses opposite to the church.

Just realize that Lt. Sterr claimed the Mitchell at 1.500 mtrs. So it travelled another 10 km before it crashed.

Re: IV/JG 54 info

John, thanks for the clarification. You still might be right about Sterr, after I looked at the map. The possibility of the pilot being wounded and still trying to make safety could account for the crash in Hees. The other bomber even considering Späte’s general area of Arnhem seems to point to a “shared” claim. That puts Gehring’s claim as probably just a damaged on one of these bombers.

Re: IV/JG 54 info

I thought that Gehring's claim details are exactly the same as Budde's claim? Or is that not true?
