Ukraine Ace?

Has anyone seen the story floating around that a Ukranian fighter pilot has shot down 5 (or 6) Russian aircraft? Any truth to this, or is this internet fiction?

Re: Ukraine Ace?

No idea, but they've just lost Colonel Oleksandr Oksanchenko in combat at Kyiv, who displayed with a UAF Flanker at RIAT 2017 and 2018.

Ukraine Ace?

Hello John

I personally would be quite skeptical about that particular narrative ... It is now known that the footage purporting to be related to that account was sourced from Digital Combat Simulator World. There seems to be a considerable amount of anecdotes floating around online that on closer examination are not all that they are claimed to be regarding this unfortunate conflict.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Ukraine Ace?

Considering that Ukrainian forces claimed to have downed 30 Russian aircraft (plus 31 helicopters) by 06:00 this morning (and the 'Ghost of Kyiv' stories were from a few days earlier), it would seem highly unlikely that one pilot could have been in a position to have downed 5 or 6 of these.

As always these stories will help to bolster morale in the face of terrible odds (much like the Malta Gladiators), but I'd be amazed if it was anything other than that.

Regards,

Steve

Re: Ukraine Ace?

the 'ghost of Kyiv' story is just that - it's from a computer game

Re: Ukraine Ace?

There is a site oryxspioenkop.com Attack on Europe Documentation of equipment losses during the 2020 Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Which lists planes ships tanks ect destroyed or captured confirmed by by picture or video clip. This looks like the place to go for confirmed losses.
