Re: B17 and P51 crash today

Very sad indeed. It actually was a P-63 Kingcobra which sustained minor damage twice previously (in 2013/17) in forced landings due to fuel exhaustion/starvation (ASN Wikibase).

Indeed, this is a sad video...
May the Family Members of the aircrew receive our most sincere sympathies.
I do believe that those warbirds should be kept in perfect conditions only for ground (taxying) purposes....the risk of malfunction (remember the Bf 109 G coded 6 that crashed) or this kind of accidents is really high. Losses of experienced airmen such as the pilots and aircrew who flew them, our Aviation Community can not afford anymore.

It is a horrid tragic accident, especially so for those family and friends impacted.

I don't think the issue is so much the reliability of flying these old aircraft. More to the point has to be the issue of effective radio ground control and chosen flight paths. Some serious questions have to be asked. From the videos I have seen online the area was far too congested over the airfield. The P-51 and P-63 should never have been allowed to fly so close to the B-17's.

Aircraft are meant to fly + many parts are not original anymore (have been replaced) so the reliability is in order.
I agree with you, Jim.
