Comeau's "Operation Mercury: Airmen in the Battle of Crete"
Seeking any opinions or reviews of this book. Title and cover art are intriguing but I cannot find a summary or review of this book.
Operation Mercury: Airmen in the Battle of Crete: The Only True Eye-Witness Account of the Events Which Led to the German Occupation of Crete (J&KH Publishing, Halisham 2000) - 3rd edition M.G. Comeau w/ forward by Philip Joubert 181 pages w/ photos, maps, footnotes, appendices, addendum, bibliography and index - hardcover I already own Shores, Cull & Maliza's Air War for Yugoslavia, Greece, and Crete, 1940-41 which is excellent. It is the only reference I have found which cites Comeau. Last edited by Edward; 20th April 2023 at 21:21. |

Re: Comeau's "Operation Mercury: Airmen in the Battle of Crete"
Hello,
I have the 91' edition and I found it a good read but it's an eye-witness account, i.e. it's not comparable with "Air War for Yugoslavia, Greece, and Crete, 1940-41". However if you're into eye-witness account's I could recommend it. Best regards/Håkan

Thank you Håkan. I am looking for eye-witness accounts by RAF personnel on Crete.
I am a bit wary of the title The Only True Eye-Witness Account. Edward |

Re: Comeau's "Operation Mercury: Airmen in the Battle of Crete"
Hello again Edward,
My edition has the sub-title "A British Airman's First-hand account of the fall of Crete in 1941". Comeau was a rigger in 33 Squadron so there is also some accounts from the early Desert War up until 33 Squadron moved to Greece. He won a Military Medal for his courage in the (ground) defence of Maleme. //Håkan
