Re: unit

Just going by the abbreviations and the fact that an Fi 156 is involved, I'd guess Flieger Kurier Gruppe (assuming it is Ku. and not Kü.) whereas the VIII might refer to VIII. Fliegerkorps. But I stress that's only guesswork, I don't know if any such unit existed.

Yeah, but an excellent guess! I did not pick up on the Kü vs Ku spelling difference.

Re: unit

Perhaps a misspelling?

16/05/1940; Stab/Fl.Korps VIII; Fl.Pl. Neufchateau; Rollschaden; Fi 156; 30%; N.N.; Westfeldzug, (Passagier) Ltn. Engel, – [verw.]

Kunze, Herbert; Lt. geb. 12/7/1917; Stab/Fl.Ku.Gr.-VIII; Fi 156C-1 Werk # 55550 (lost) Liason Operational Clasp; MIA 16 May, 1940 during the French Campaign, crashing near Ochamps. Believed buried as "Unknown" at Lommel. Source: A. Rosseels
