Spitfire TD116 20.09.45

Hello,

Does anyone get any details on what happened to this Spitfire TD116 from 349 (except what we can find on the net) and especially who was flying it.

Thank you

Phil

Phil

This is a post war question and should be moved there.

No idea what is on the 'net but Jim Halley (in RAF Aircraft SA100 - VZ999)
says it collided with SM842 and belly landed at Wunsdorf on the date in question

Colin Cummings adds: During formation flying, the aircraft was struck by SM842. Damage was caused
to the rudder, which jammed, compelling the pilot to make a wheels up emergency landing.

Pilot (unknown since not listed) was unhurt

Cheers
Stig

Re: Spitfire TD116 20.09.45

No names in ORB 349 Squadron for 20 Sept 1945 indeed.
More: collision with SM842 not very likely, for this Spitfire was shipped to India in May 1945? Squadron did have SM482 instead in that period.

Regards,
Leendert

Indeed Leendert

It seems to me that the accident card has the wrong aircraft data, since Cummins is not copying Halley.

Can anyone confirm that?

Cheers
Stig
