Lt. Günther Schmidt of NJG 5

Hallo,
please, do you know more about the fate and military career of Lt. Günther Schmidt ?
On nightfight 2./3. January 1944 he bailed out Bf 110 wnr.720005 "C9+EK" and injured, in this time he was member of 2.Staffel NJG 5.

He was KIA on 20-02-1944, but I don't know where.

Lt. Günter Schmidt of 2./NJG 5 and his radio/gunner, Uffz. Hans Leyendecker, were posted missing on 20 February 1944 when their Bf 110 G-4 WNr 5440 C9+AK did not return from a day battle against the 8th Air Force (that started its "Big Week" this day).

No loss place is known but the gunner was washed ashore on March 1944, so this crew was lost at sea, probably in the North Sea put possibly in the Baltic (given the base of I./NJG 5 then and the USAAF targets this day, both are possible).
